**Custom, Sleigh and ‘Platform type’ beds have an equally strong but alternative method of construction. *2 extra slats are supplied with our pocket spring mattresses - these are not webbed. *‘Platform’ bed slats are not pre spaced or webbed and each slat must be screwed down. *** ‘Platform type’ beds under 5’6” (167 cm) wide do not need a centre beam because the slats overhang the frame. Beds which are 4’0” (122 cm) and narrower do not have a centre beam.
The Lifetime Structural Guarantee on bed bases has been in place for over
22 years and will be honoured for as long as we are in business
All Litvinoff and Fawcett bed bases carry a
LIFETIME STRUCTURAL GUARANTEE
In the unlikely event of failure we undertake to
repair (or replace) them free of charge.
This guarantee has been in place since 1989.
MATTRESSES are guaranteed for TEN YEARS
against faulty workmanship and components (more)
Built to last!
By careful design we ensure that our beds will always stay as solid as the day they arrived. Most wooden beds are designed for assembly in the home. By necessity the joints connecting the headboard and footboard are not permanently fixed to aid ease of transport and access to the bedroom. If these joints work loose it is essential that they can be re tightened. Very few wooden beds have a failsafe means of maintaining rigidity, and sooner or later they become unstable and must be replaced.
Mattresses with a ten year guarantee ...
We are unusual because we make both bed bases and mattresses, and do not merely buy our mattresses in. We have full control over their production, and use traditional methods and expensive natural components.
It may look fabulous, but when the lights are out you can’t see the bed that you are in.
A sound base and quality mattress are what really matters.

“When looking for a well constructed bed, grab one corner and shake it with all your might. Needless to say the slatted beds made here budge not a jot
and come with a lifetime structural guarantee”

The strong centre beam*** prevents a) the slats from sagging; b) a tendency to sink into the middle of the bed; and c) transference of movement from a restless partner. It also ensures a flat, stable base that helps to prolong the life of the mattress.
Virtually indestructible pre spaced slats* allow the mattress to ‘breathe’. Substantial 1” x 6” (25 X 150 mm) slats are more reliable
than flimsy, and cheaper plywood 'sprung' slats which are prone to invert, and cannot be replaced when they break.
Our beds can be dismantled and rebuilt time and again without weakening. If movement or creaking develops, gentle re-tightening of the bolts restores rigidity. Moreover these are hidden fixings which do not spoil the appearance of the bed.
The mortise and tenon joints ** are secured with bolts - not screws. Wood screws will eventually
work loose and cannot be re tightened. We do not use cost and labour saving fittings which cannot
be repaired or replaced
when damaged or lost.
features that make all the difference
Thinking of buying elsewhere ?
Not all beds are as well made as they seem. No matter how convincing the advertising, you may be surprised at what you discover when you look beneath the mattress. Bed bases are usually chosen for their outward appearance, and most people look no further - but this is where significant, hidden cost savings are made.
Good looking, cheaply made beds that ‘appear’ equally strong !
We could save manufacturing costs and still offer a reasonably plausible, limited ten year guarantee. Our beds would appear identical once covered by the mattress, but would not be nearly as strong.
Typical savings include omitting a substantial centre beam; the use of wood screws to secure the major joints; flimsy sprung plywood or widely spaced slats; gadget ironmongery and fixings; low quality timber and even a stabilising middle leg. All are potential sources of future problems, much like building a house on shaky foundations.
Phoney ‘sales' ?
In recent years the press has been inundated with expensive advertisements offering ‘Cut Prices’ and perpetual ‘reductions’ from a local wooden bed maker. These offers are usually ’ending soon‘ but are invariably renewed upon expiry. They also imply that they make their own mattresses, but they simply buy them in for re sale.
There are many British makers offering genuine value, and it is worth taking time to research the market before choosing. Those so called ‘bargains’ will almost certainly still be there.
Straightforward, clear pricing
We never have phoney ‘Sales’. Our prices remain consistent and transparent throughout the year. Reliable quality ensures that people always know what they are paying for, and they continue to choose our beds even when the High Street sales are on. We offer very good value and there is no middle man to pay.
Quality that benefits all
Few makers offer a genuine, open ended Structural Guarantee on beds, inspiring the confidence that they will never be needlessly thrown out. Our guarantee can be called upon at any time and extends throughout our range from basic Platform beds and Open Coil mattresses to more costly Solid Oak beds and Pocket Spring mattresses.
This in turn brings repeat custom and invaluable recommendation, and has kept us in business since 1979.
GUARANTEE EXCLUSIONS: Damage caused by poor care, misuse or accident;
non structural, natural characteristics of timber (i.e. minor fissures and movement caused
by heat and moisture); surface finishes; mattress handles; folded or damaged mattresses.
All items and bed components considered eligible
for repair or replacement must be returned to our workshops for inspection.
Please note: Sizes are approximate and may vary slightly. Cancelled orders will be subject to a charge.
We reserve the right to alter prices and specifications without notice. All prices include VAT, but not delivery.
