All of our mattresses provide excellent support. One should therefore be careful not to choose the firmest in the belief that it will be better for your posture. Always choose the one that feels most comfortable.

How firm?

How long do they last?

They should remain in a serviceable condition for at least 10 years with reasonable care, providing they are well ventilated, never folded, and turned regularly. Lighter occupants benefit from the longest use.

Many returning customers tell us they have enjoyed 20 years or more of satisfactory use. Nonetheless, after experiencing the luxury of a new one, they may wish they had returned a little earlier.

Testing

WEAR LIGHTWEIGHT, LOOSE CLOTHING. Remove bulky outerwear. Shoes may be left on if preferred.

TRY TO RELAX. Vary your position. Lie on your side for an indication of firmness.

TAKE YOUR TIME. Pay special attention to the support given to the lower back, shoulders and hips.

ALLOW YOUR BODY TO GUIDE YOU rather than a preconceived opinion.

Why choose a Litvinoff and Fawcett mattress?

Prices and Specifications

Why choose a Litvinoff and Fawcett mattress?

Never fold a sprung mattress as this can permanently damage the springs. Although it is sometimes necessary to bend one when access is tight, this is potentially damaging, Care should be taken not to bend more than is absolutely necessary.

‘Pocket’ springs are more flexible than ‘open' coil in this situation, and are less likely to be damaged.

All can be damaged by localised pressure, for example by constant use as seating, children jumping on them, or by resting heavy objects on them.

TURNING

Turn and rotate.

Mattresses benefit from being turned periodically. During the first three months, turn every 3 - 4 weeks. Thereafter, every few months, and more frequently if there is a marked difference in the weight of the occupants. This will aid even settlement and prolong the life of the mattress.

Please note: The handles are there for positioning the mattress, and not for carrying it.

ENSURE THAT YOUR MATTRESS IS CORRECTLY SUPPORTED AND VENTILATED

A firm, flat and well ventilated base is essential. Natural filled mattresses need air to circulate freely or they will trap moisture and deteriorate. The supporting base can be either slatted or sprung. If a pocket sprung mattress is to be placed on a slatted base, the slats should be no more than 6 cm (2¼”) apart.

ADJUSTMENT AND SETTLEMENT

A new mattress may initially feel strange. This is normal. Allow time for the fillings to settle, and most importantly, allow your body to adjust to the changes. The area you sleep on will always depress slightly.

New mattresses may sometimes emit a slight odour which will disperse quickly once aired.

PROTECTION

A washable mattress protector will help to control dust mite and protect it from stains and spills.

CLEANING

Detergents and chemical cleaners may cause damage and discolouration. Spillages should be dabbed with an absorbent dry cloth. Mild, soapy water may be used if necessary and the mattress should then be well aired. Avoid soaking as this may cause damage.

Dust and fluff can be removed with a soft brush.
